1X2 #: The classic three-way football market. 1 = home win, X = draw, 2 = away win. The most popular pre-match market and the basis for most accumulators.

A

Accumulator #: A multi-leg bet where every selection must win. Combined odds are the product of each leg, so the potential payout grows fast — but a single losing leg sinks the whole slip.
Asian Handicap #: A handicap market that removes the draw by giving one team a virtual goal head-start (or deficit), sometimes split across half-goal lines like -0.25 or -1.5.

B

BTTS #: Both Teams To Score. A Yes/No market on whether each side will score at least one goal in regulation time.

C

Cashout #: A feature that lets you settle a bet early at a price the book offers based on the current state of play. Useful for locking in profit or cutting losses.
Closing Line #: The final odds offered on a market just before kick-off. Long-term, beating the closing line is the strongest signal that you are picking value.

D

Decimal Odds #: European-style odds that show the total return per unit staked, including the stake. Odds of 2.50 on a £10 bet return £25.
Devigging #: Removing the bookmaker margin (the vig or juice) from a market to estimate the true probability each outcome implies.
Double Chance #: A 1X2 derivative covering two of the three outcomes — 1X (home or draw), X2 (draw or away) or 12 (either team wins). Lower odds, higher hit rate.
Draw No Bet #: A two-way market where the draw refunds your stake. Effectively an Asian Handicap of 0.

E

EV (Expected Value)#: The long-run average outcome of a bet, calculated as (probability of winning × profit) − (probability of losing × stake). Positive EV bets are profitable over time.

F

Fractional Odds #: UK-style odds shown as a ratio of profit to stake, e.g. 5/2 means £5 profit on a £2 stake. Equivalent to decimal odds of 3.50.
Free Bet #: A bookmaker promo token that lets you place a bet without risking your own money — but the stake is usually not returned with winnings (you win profit only).

H

Handicap #: A virtual goal head-start applied to one team to balance an uneven match-up. European handicaps allow draws; Asian handicaps split lines and refund pushes.

I

Implied Probability #: The break-even win rate implied by a price. Calculated as 1 / decimal odds, expressed as a percentage. Used to compare market lines against your own estimate.
In-Play #: Live betting on a match that is already underway. Prices update second-by-second as the action unfolds.

J

Juice/Vig #: The bookmaker margin baked into a market — the reason implied probabilities of all outcomes sum to more than 100%. Lower juice = sharper book.

K

Kelly Criterion #: A staking formula that sizes each bet as a fraction of bankroll proportional to your edge. Maximises long-term growth but most pros use a half-Kelly variant to dampen variance.

L

Live Streaming #: Real-time video coverage of a match offered by some bookmakers (or independent aggregators) — often gated behind a funded account or a recent bet.

M

Market #: A single bettable outcome on a match — 1X2, Over/Under 2.5, BTTS, Asian Handicap -1, etc. Top football matches have hundreds of markets each.

N

No-Deposit Bonus #: A small free-play credit handed out for signing up without requiring a deposit. Rare in sportsbooks and almost always comes with steep wagering terms.

O

Odds #: The price a bookmaker offers for a bet to win. Expressed in decimal, fractional or American format — each is just a different way of writing the same payout ratio.
Over/Under #: A two-way market on whether a stat (usually total goals) will be over or under a given line, e.g. Over 2.5 goals wins if 3+ are scored.

P

Parlay #: The American word for an accumulator — a multi-leg bet where every selection must win.
Pre-match #: Markets and prices offered before kick-off, as opposed to in-play/live markets. Pre-match lines tend to have lower margins.

R

ROI #: Return on Investment. Net profit divided by total amount staked, expressed as a percentage. The single best metric for comparing your betting performance over time.

S

Stake #: The amount you risk on a bet. Multiplied by decimal odds gives total return; subtracting the stake gives profit.
Sure Bet/Arbitrage #: A combination of bets across multiple bookmakers that guarantees a profit regardless of which outcome wins, exploiting odds differences. Most books restrict accounts caught arbing.

T

Treble #: An accumulator with exactly three legs. All three must win for the bet to settle.

V

Value Bet #: A bet where your estimated probability of winning is higher than the implied probability of the odds. Consistently finding value is the only way to win long-term.

W

Wagering Requirement #: The number of times a bonus (or bonus + deposit) must be wagered before withdrawal. A 35x bonus wagering on a £20 bonus means £700 in turnover before the bonus converts to cash.

Y

Yankee #: A multi-bet system on four selections covering 11 bets: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold accumulator. At least two legs must win for any return.
